Partisan warfare is tearing our nation apart. We are split down the middle. So we are Democrats who are taking an important step to heal the wounds of party politics. We have found a Republican we can support.

Whether it's voting for common sense bond measures to help our kids, supporting union workers or respecting undocumented workers by giving them drivers licenses, we can count on Tony Strickland.

Illegal Immigration

Unlike most Republicans, Tony Strickland recognizes the importance of guest workers from other countries. He also didn’t engage in racial hatred like most of his fellow party members in the legislature. In fact, he joined Democrats in giving driver’s licenses to undocumented workers. His courage is particularly significant since he cast a vote three days after 9-11.

Taxes

In 2002, Tony supported AB 16 - a commonsense measure to fund our school. Sure, extremist Republicans called it the largest tax increase in California history (which it was) but Tony stood firm and voted his conscience.

Union worker support

In, 2003, Tony not only voted for, but CO-AUTHORED a bill with Senate President John Burton to require binding arbitration be used by California counties and cities.

According to the (in our opinion flawed) analysis by the League of California Cities, SB440 would:

*Cause labor costs to spiral upwards;

*Give more power to the most powerful employee unions;

*Permit employee groups to select arbitration on individual issues, rather than total package arbitration.

And don't believe the nay-sayers who claim he only voted for union bills because of the ten of thousands of dollars he has received from unions. Tony really believes in supporting the working men and women of this state!
